HOME Real Estate agents put the heat on cancer

chili cookoffHOME Real Estate agents helped raise nearly $3,000 during the eighth annual Soup or Chili Cook-off for Cancer Wednesday in Lincoln.
The event featured seven different soup and chili entries, plus a cinnamon roll contest. Agents and staff vote for their favorite soup or chili with $1 voting beans, and the winner gets the People’s Choice Award. All proceeds go to the local American Cancer Society; the group has raised more than $18,500 in $1 voting “beans” to date.
Chris Arnold, HomeServices of Nebraska IT Network Administrator, won the People’s Choice Award this year for his chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. HOME Real Estate agent Katy Manning finished in second place with her Clue-themed mystery ingredient chili.

There was also a Judges’ Choice Award given by guest judges. Celebrity judges this year were: KFRX Program Director and Morning Show Host Matt McKay, Channel 8 Eyewitness News Anchor Rod Fowler, Lazlo’s and Fireworks Owner Jay Jarvis, and Miss Teen Nebraska USA Samantha Washington.

This year two HOME agents tied for second in the Judge’s Choice Awards: Dayton Spomer with a goose chili, and Ian Gilgallon for his “Tailgate” chili.

“All of our agents and staff are affected by cancer either through family or friends,” said Director of Training & Recruitment Connie Hain, who coordinates the event. “This is one way we are able to help them support their loved ones.”
The 2017 soup and chili participants from HOME Real Estate were: Katy Manning, Ian Gilgallon and Dayton Spomer, plus Cinnamon Roll Contest entries by Stacy Hartgerink and Karen Roeber.

Preparing your home for professional photos

listing-photographyIt’s time to put your house on the market, you met with a HOME Real Estate agent, and one of the items on the checklist is having photos taken of your property. Now the question comes up, what can you as the seller do to prepare for professional marketing photos?

Outside the property

  • Mow and trim lawn
  • Clean driveway and walks
  • Rake leaves
  • Put away hoses
  • Clean patio furniture
  • Put away toys
  • Hide trash cans
  • Remove vehicles
  • Remove grills from smaller decks

Inside the property

  • Put away trash cans
  • Remove clutter from the outside of the refrigerator
  • Have all lights and lamps on
  • Make sure ceiling fans and bath fixtures have matching (non compact fluorescent light) bulbs
  • Remove clutter from all rooms
  • Clean and vacuum floors
  • Put away toys (except for toy room)
  • Make sure blinds and shades are operational
  • Minimize items on kitchen counter tops
  • Put away tissue boxes
