FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  Q & A  - About Choosing Real Estate as a Career

Why would I consider a career in real estate?

Real estate provides an opportunity to run your own business with a minimum amount of up front expenses.  Although it’s not for everyone, most people like the idea of not having a limit placed on the amount of income they can earn.  The idea of flexible work hours can also be a huge incentive.  Realtors also have the luxury of actually having a career that they like, not just a job to earn an income.

What should I expect when I’m starting out?

Highs and lows are part of any sales career—some months will be higher producing than others; consistency over time will be the key to your success.  Expect to invest up to $2,000 during the first 60 to 90 days to cover licensing, Board of Realtor dues, MLS dues and some marketing materials.  The first paycheck may not come for a few months, because real estate sales are paid on a commission basis; it takes some time to establish and build a customer and client base for your business.  There is also a time lag between putting a sale together and getting it closed. When the sale closes is when you get paid.

How do I get business?

Your objective in this business is to assist people through the process of buying or selling homes.  The way you accomplish this is by utilizing various prospecting systems that develop potential leads.  Your business can come from people you already know or from people you meet with the prospecting tools we will provide you with.  You will be trained in all aspects of prospecting and sales and will be able to create a career that will be long lasting.  This is our goal.

How do I choose a company?

The most important choice you have to make is choosing the right real estate office that fits your personality and style.  The support and energy you receive from your environment- from your manager, other support staff, seasoned sales staff and other new recruits will all enhance your business performance.  It is important for you to choose a company and office that meets your expectations.

What kind of person does well in real estate?

Almost anyone can do well in real estate.  It really isn’t a matter of education or superior salesmanship.  Although these things help, it’s more about being committed to your own success and willingness to work hard.  Dedication, hard work, highly motivated and outgoing along with a great attitude help you become a successful real estate agent.

What type of training is available through HOME Real Estate?

We have a comprehensive training for new agents in the business. Superbly Trained Agents Reaching Success. S.T.A.R.S.

HOME Real Estate's Sales Associates enjoy a reputation for being the mosthighly-trained professionals in the industry. S.T.A.R.S., an exciting new program offered exclusively to recently-licensed HOME Sales Associates, is designed to enhance that reputation.

It is a two week course that is required and covers such items as agency, fair housing, financing, closing the sale, market analysis, prospecting for business, goal setting and of course all of the forms needed in a transaction.  We have a full time trainer on staff that is a licensed realtor.

How much money can I really make?

This really depends on you.  Realtors are paid strictly on a commission basis, which depending on your point of view can be bad or good.  The bad being if you are used to being paid every 2 weeks just for showing up, that is not going to happen.  The good, which far out weighs the bad, is the idea of being paid what you’re worth.  Most hard working agents can meet or exceed their required income needs their first year, and then your business continues to grow from there.
